Childhood and Music:
Ramy’s father and mother had a refined musical taste, and they never stopped listening to Umm Kulthum, Abdel Wahab, and many other prominent singers. This is what Ramy grew up with since childhood, and since he was visually impaired, he used his ears to recognize everything around him. His Father noticed that his child was attracted to music and calmed down during any tantrums that affected children. He promptly bought a small Keyboard , and Ramy kept playing it along with any song or advertisement on TV. This continued until he turned four.
The Beginning of Real Education:
When he turned four and joined kindergarten, his father bought him a 4-octave Keyboard , which became his constant companion that he couldn’t part with except when sleeping. The parents were convinced that their son had a special talent. His father decided to hire a private music teacher, the esteemed professor “Ahmed Nasef,” a violinist and organist.
Professor Ahmed was very keen on teaching him music in an extremely professional manner and putting him on the right path from an early age. Within about two years, his level improved dramatically while he was still six years old. He also started learning to read music notes in Braille. When he joined the Center for the Blind’s Model School, the music room became his second home. He didn’t miss any opportunity to go there and try playing all musical instruments. He excelled at playing the Keyboard, piano, and accordion. At that time, his music teacher decided to include him in the school’s music team when he was still very young. He became a member of the school’s music team and continued until he finished high school.
His father was also keen on his musical education, so he brought a music teacher to teach him (oriental music modes) and the different musical forms, which gave him an authentic taste that continues to influence his music execution.
During this period, he also received numerous awards at the provincial and national levels for his performance.
Signs of Musical Arrangement Skills:
Those around him noticed his interest in musical arrangement and multiple voices. He would try recording musical lines with multiple cassette devices and play them together to create music with more than one instrument. He also placed harmonic arrangements correctly without having any formal knowledge of harmony, relying on his ears to guide his fingers.
Updating his Keyboard:
After his father’s death in 1993, his mother took care of him and nurtured his talent. When she noticed his passion for musical arrangement, she bought him a highly advanced Keyboard at the time to help him unleash his imagination and record multiple musical lines. He didn’t miss the opportunity, and this device became his very own world.
Professionalism:
Ramy Mustafa began working as a professional musician at the age of fifteen, where he was the youngest member of the music band. However, due to his skill, many bands competed to have his services. He continued this path after joining the College of Music Education. As he studied music theory, his talent gradually became heavier, and he started focusing more on composing complete musical works. He won first place in 2001 at the university level in musical arrangement for the song “Insat Kol Elly Fat” with the composer “Mustafa Sabri.”
With the piano being a mandatory instrument within the college, he chose the violin as his second instrument, even if it was only for a year, to further understand the nature of stringed instruments and how to play them, then He studied Flute till he finish in 2004.
Ramy continued playing with bands and started accompanying singing stars in Egypt and the Arab world. He also became a piano player at the Cairo Opera House. However, he did not forget his original passion for music arrangement. With the help of his mother, he began developing his equipment to execute his musical works more professionally. He utilized his musical knowledge and special talent to transcribe sheet music for various bands and singers, a profession that requires excellent musical ear and good musical education.
In 2009, he joined a language school in Egypt as a music teacher, which allowed him to produce numerous children’s songs.
Current work:
Ramy is currently working as a teacher of musical improvisation and solfeggio in the Department of Music Education Sciences at the Faculty of Music Education, Helwan University.
However, he considers his primary work to be music composition, arrangement, and orchestration. He also works as a freelance sound engineer.
